This is my first assignment submission of Semester 2. My groupmates and I had to research on a local sculpture artist, Raja Shahriman and this is how it turned out.
We designed this folder with inspiration from Raja Shahriman's metal sculptures.
These are the brochures and book that were given to us when we visited the artist's art gallery, Pelita Hati. I wanted to include them with our submission so that why we made a folder to neatly pack everything together.
In this particular project assignment, I’ve learned a lot from visiting the gallery Pelita Hati and seeing the detailed sculpture up close as well as having a chat with his brother in law, Raja Annuar. He gave us an insight as to how Raja Shahriman is as a person and his personal life that we can’t obtain online nor in books.
It is interesting to see how an artist evolves through his works and the thought process that goes through each piece. Raja Annuar’s philosophies are deep, meaningful and thought provoking.
The fact that I wasn’t fluent in the Malay language, it was sometimes difficult for me to do research on some of his collections because the information was in Malay. It’s safe to say that even my teammates had a difficult time understanding and translating the text even though they are better in Malay because he is a very traditional man, the type of language he uses is quite old fashioned.
